From Tradition to Innovation
1848
Founded in 1848 by Zannis M. Chrissoveloni. Our first office opened in Galați, Romania, under the name ‘Chrissoveloni Fils, maison d’exportation et de banque’ , becoming a major contribuitor to the industrial development of Romania.
1920
The family legacy continues with Jean N. Chrissoveloni transforming the Merchant Banking Operations into Banca Chrissoveloni S.A.R. He partnered with Banca de Credit Roman, acquired a bank in Sibiu, and expanded internationally with offices in Constantinople, Vienna, Paris, and New York.
1948
In the communism period (1948-1990) the Bank was closed by the then Government. By that time, Banca Chrissoveloni's capital was raised to $493 million.
1999 - 2005
In 1999, Pay Net was founded in Bucharest as the first Third Party Processor in Romania authorized by VISA and MasterCard. It was a pioneer in the Romanian cards industry and served as the processor for 25 small and medium banks before being acquired by Euronet.
2019
In 2019, we launched LIRAPAY, a mobile payment service using VISA and MasterCard, founded in Malta by John Chrissoveloni and part of the PayNet team. In 2022, we issued the First Global card for a European client.
